Richard A. Sokol, M.D., Norfolk, Named Virginia Family Physician of the Year

 

Richmond , VA- Richard A. Sokol, M.D., FAAFP of Norfolk has been selected by the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians as the 2004-2005 Virginia Family Physician of the Year.

This statewide award, which is the Academy’s highest honor, is presented to a family physician whose dedication and commitment to his or her patients, family, and community is unparalleled. Additionally, recipients must also possess those unique and special qualities that exemplify a truly outstanding family physician. The award was officially presented to Dr. Sokol during the Academy’s Annual Meeting in Williamsburg.

Dr. Sokol received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his residency in Family Practice from the Riverside Family Practice Residency Program. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Practice with added qualifications in Geriatrics. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Sokol is in practice with the Westside Medical Associates, A Sentara Medical Group Member.

The Virginia Academy of Family Physicians is the largest medical specialty group in the Commonwealth, with a membership of over 2,500 practicing family physicians, family practice residents, and medical students. Family medicine is the medical specialty which provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family.
