COSEHC 15th Annual Scientific Sessions - September 24 - 27 2008, Baltimore, MD
| |
| |
The 15th annual Scientific Sessions of the Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control (COSEHC) is a scientific and clinical education program that will provide a forum for presenting new advances in basic, clinical, and public health sciences related to hypertension, atherosclerosis, the metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and target organ injury. The program will afford participants ample opportunity to present both basic and clinically related work in the form of posters, oral presentations, invited lectures, and interactive workshops. This two and half-day program provides an educational experience for hypertensionologists, cardiologists, nephrologists, endocrinologists, neurologists, pediatricians and pediatric sub-specialists, nurses, allied health professionals, and investigators in the major fields of genetics, hypertension, heart, kidney, brain, and vascular physiology and pathology.
COSEHC invites the submission of abstracts describing basic science research, clinical science research, or public health studies. We strongly encourage medical residents, basic or clinical post-doctoral fellows, or investigators who hold junior faculty appointments.

13th Annual Hypertension Symposium, October 9 - 10 2008, Nashville, TN
| |
Based on previous attendees assessment of program needs and their clinical skills as well as review of the literature and recent clinical and epidemiologic studies, this year’s course will be directed at proven clinical pathophysiology, treatment and diagnosis of hypertension, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, renal failure and other target organ damage in hypertension. The recent Accomplish Trial and ASCOT Study call into question the clinical use of diuretics for hypertension related to an increased risk in coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction as well as an increased risk for Type II diabetes over time. Review of referral patterns and drug usage in the Hypertension Institute and the Saint Thomas Medical Group of over 250,000 patients indicate that most physicians in private practice are at least five to ten years behind present clinical studies related to appropriate treatment of hypertension, drug usage and treatment goals. Through presentation of new information and interactive panel discussions, the expected result of this symposium is the improvement of physician competency and performance in the provision of evidence-based treatments for patients with hypertension and related vascular disorders.
This course is designed for primary care physicians, including internists, family physicians, general practitioners and general surgeons, cardiologists, nephrologists, endocrinologists, neurologists, vascular specialists, hypertension specialists, nurses, pharmacists, residents and other healthcare professionals.
